International Conference on Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (ICDRI) 2022
Envisioning a People-centered and Resilient Infrastructure Transition
4 - 6 May 2022 | The Oberoi, New Delhi
The International Conference on Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (ICDRI) is the annual conference of the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI). It brings together member countries, organizations and institutions to strengthen the global discourse on disaster and climate resilient infrastructure.
In 2018 and 2019, the first and second International Workshop on Disaster Resilient Infrastructure took place in New Delhi, India. ICDRI 2021 was hosted virtually. The fourth edition of ICDRI is being organized in partnership with the United States Government, from 4 to 6 May 2022 at The Oberoi, New Delhi, in hybrid format.
ICDRI 2022
We are in the midst of several global transitions. There is a demographic transition with increase in population as well as a change in the age composition. We are witnessing rapid urbanization that is changing the demand for energy, transport, housing, health, education and telecom and concomitant infrastructure needs. There are transitions in our social interactions and behaviour, for example, the COVID-19 pandemic decoupled people from their places of work and changed the dynamics of transportation and telecommunication demand. This is all happening against the backdrop of a changing climate. Dealing with climate change concerns as well as ensuring just and sustainable development has motivated greater alignment and commitments across the 2030 global agendas – SDGs, Paris Agreement and SFDRR. These transitions are changing the way we are reimaging our future and the infrastructure that will get built. Also, at the heart of these complex transitions, are people.
In light of these transitions, new questions arise with regard to the notion of “resilient infrastructure”. What new energy or transport infrastructure will be built in the years to come? How will cascading risks be managed given deeper integration across infrastructure systems? How can people be made change agents in building resilient infrastructure? What role will human-centered design play in building forward and building back better? How can disaster risk-financing be embedded in all infrastructure investment decisions? How can new technology be leveraged for resilience? How will governments around the world navigate these complex set of challenges?
The ICDRI will be an opportunity to address some of these questions and emphasize on resilience of transitioning infrastructure systems as a goal that is instrumental to realizing 1.5oC, climate adaptation for the most vulnerable, and attaining energy transition targets that integrate resilience. It will engage with decision-makers, practitioners, and communities from across the world to discuss challenges, identify good practices, develop collaboration, and galvanize concrete actions.
Agenda
ICDRI 2022 will include multi-sectoral and multi-country discussions around infrastructure transitions, risk governance and finance, innovation and human-centered, ecologically sensitive design for building resilience.
Policy, regional, sectoral and thematicforums led by global experts along with a space for networking opportunities will constitute the structure of the conference. The Policy Forums will highlight the overarching risk governance perspectives critical for building resilient infrastructure. The Regional Forums will explore various policy contexts in light of the transition and delve deeper into the key challenges for building resilient infrastructure. The Sectoral and Thematic Forums will discuss solutions and success stories that have been identified as broad portfolios of action for CDRI.
Feature Events: This will bring together different US agencies and highlight their global contribution in building disaster resilient infrastructure.
Curtain-raisers: Leading up to ICDRI 2022, CDRI is organizing a series of dialogues on transitions associated with resilient infrastructure. Webinars cover subjects such as creating communities of practice on infrastructure resilience, resilient hydrogen energy infrastructure and peoples’-participation.
Masterclass: CDRI’s Masterclass will provide conference participants with an opportunity learn critical aspects of disaster risk financing and certification systems for infrastructure resilience.
