Ms Luisa Tuiafitu-Malolo is the Director of Climate Change, Ministry of Meteorology, Energy, Information, Disaster Management, Environment, Climate Change and Communications (MEIDECC) in Tonga. She has been coordinating climate change programs, projects and activities in Tonga for over 20 years. In 2001, Ms Malolo started working for the Government of Tonga as a senior project officer under the Environmental Planning and Conservation Section within the Ministry of Lands, Environment, Climate Change and Natural Resources (MLECCNR). She was contracted by this Ministry to work as the National Coordinator for Tonga’s Initial National Communication on Climate Change Project. She also worked on Tonga’s Second National Communication Project. One of the milestones of this project that Ms Malolo coordinated was the development of the Tonga Joint National Action Plan (JNAP) on Climate Change and Disaster Risk Management. In 2011, Ms Malolo was contracted by MLECCNR as team leader for Tonga JNAP Secretariat. In February 2013, Ms Malolo has been appointed by the Government of Tonga as the Deputy Director for Climate at MLECCNR. Ms Malolo has led Tonga’s climate change team with the development of the Tonga-Climate Change Fund Bill which was enacted in Tonga in 2021.
