Professor Richard Dawson is Director of Research in the School of Engineering at Newcastle University. Richard’s research focuses on the analysis and mitigation of environmental risks to catchments, cities, and infrastructure networks. Richard has published over 80 journal papers and awarded the Lloyds Science of Risk Prize, ICE's Robert Alfred Carr Prize and Aon Foundation Catastrophe Research Award. As a member of the UK’s Committee on Climate Change, Richard provides advice to the government on preparing for climate change. He is also a Lead Author of the Cities, Settlements and Infrastructure Chapter of the IPCC 6th Assessment Report.
