Mr Kaushal R Gnyawali

CDRI Fellow 2021-22

Speakers

Kaushal is a Ph.D. scholar at the School of Engineering, the University of British Columbia Okanagan, Canada. He researches geo-hazards, especially landslides using remote sensing, geo-spatial analysis, machine learning, and numerical modelling. His research is focused on improving natural disaster adaption, mitigation, and resilience in areas of steep terrain affected by climate change, mainly in South Asia and western Canada.

As a CDRI Fellow, he is developing a national-scale geo-spatial dataset of landslides in Nepal, a susceptibility zonation map, and a framework to assess the resilience of critical infrastructure exposed to landslide impact. In Nepal, he is the co-founder of the Himalayan Risk Research Institute (HRI), a social enterprise of inter-disciplinary young researchers and professionals working in disaster risk reduction, humanitarian actions, and voluntary social works.
